The Lone Medievalist

The Ballad of the Lone Medievalist

Available from punctum books!

The Lone Medievalist has grown from a series of conference meetings and roundtables into a loose-knit organization seeking to bridge the distance between professionals who study or teach the Middle Ages. The Ballad of the Lone Medievalist is the organization’s first book. Its audience is any professional working in the broadly-defined field of medieval studies. Ballad is conceived as a countermeasure for the isolation many medievalists experience as working professionals. Over 30 of us have contributed stories, experiences, advice, and survival tips that have helped us navigate our jobs and manage the many demands on the medievalist teacher-scholar. Spanning life from classroom to conference, from researching to publishing, from campus service to community outreach, this collection offers multiple paths for professional success as a medievalist—lone or otherwise.
