Meet Our Co-Founders
I am Kisha Tracy, a professor of English Studies at Fitchburg State University, specializing in pre-modern British and world literature and co-creator of the Lone Medievalist idea. I received my Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from the University of Connecticut. My first book is available from Palgrave, entitled Memory and Confession in Middle English Literature, and explores how the traditional medieval relationship between memory and confession provides a valuable framework for understanding the employment of recollection in various Middle English literary texts. My second book was published in 2022 with Arc Humanities Press and is entitled Why Study the Middle Ages? My interests, both teaching and research, are wide-ranging, including medieval disability, especially mental health, cultural heritage, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Photography is a passion of mine, and you are likely to see some of my photos on the site from time to time. We truly hope that The Lone Medievalist provides our fellow medievalists a space to discuss, post resources, and find community.
I’m a professor of English at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, where I’ve been since 2007. I am a co-creator of the Lone Medievalist and co-host of Saga Thing, a podcast dedicated to the Icelandic sagas. As all the “co-” designations suggest, I’m a big believer in collaboration among colleagues. I’ve also published on various topics including The Canterbury Tales, Anglo-Saxon hagiographical literature, Icelandic sagas, and disability studies. Welcome to the Lone Medievalist!
